1 Realist Narrative : a advert that can be seen as real life or something that could happen in the real world
this advert has a realist narrative as it shows kids doing things such as getting dirty helping out with the cooking and getting messy and shows how the mum removes the mess as this is something that happens in real life.
2 Anti-realist-narrative: a advert that doesn't look or isn't real this is things such as people flying around with wings or with cartoon characters
this advert is a anti- realist- narrative as things like this would never happen in day to day life of people turning into chocolate once they put on this chocolate smelling deodorant.
3 Animation: animation are hand drawn or computer drawn images that may resemble famous characters or recognisable brand characters to get a promotion from them which means kids are more likely to ask for this for there parents to buy. as well as this depending on that character that is used for a promotion will affect what the parents think especially if its not family friendly they will be less likely to buy it. the animation can either be 3D or 2D animation as when animated they often have a certain style to suit the advert or product they are promoting
4 Documentary
documentary adverts are adverts that give facts or information through the way of audio and visuals by the word of mouth giving us insight to what the documentaries topic is but in the case of adverts it is often just to make people emotive and invest into a charity or group to help others
5 Talking heads- where the talker looks directly into the camera this to directly talk to the audience to make them feel emotive as it feels like direct address towards the audience or people at home to make them feel more invested.
6 Series- this where the adverts are continues and relate to the last one or all follow a theme with each advert using the same actors and the same setting as the previous one and some times each follow the same story
I used secondary research for the purpose of finding out the different styles and techniques of tv adverts, as this will enable me to analyse 2 tv adverts.
hidden message- hidden messages is also known as subliminal messaging where a message is presented to the audience however it is only seen quickly, subliminal messages are delivered by the way if an image or word being flashed for a millisecond on a screen, audio played in the background or images or words hidden within a scene or ad we're viewing that we aren't consciously aware of seeing/hearing the messages.
The AT & T used subliminal messaging in one of there adverts. The subliminal message that the used was making objects in the background varying in height from shortest to tallest to look like
wireless signal points on a phone as AT & T deals with mobiles and wireless signals.
overt message- overt messages are that are clearly and openly displayed on screen to sell the product. however these can also be applied.
oral-B tooth brush is a example of overt messaging as the advert shows people with shinny white teeth and that it follows its tag line of 'the toothbrush used by dentists' and they are having a real life dentists to promote the product and everyone in the advert is wearing white clothing to show purity and to represent teeth. it also is very positive making it seem like a good product to own
emotional response- adverts try to drawn on the emotion response of the audience to make them sad or upset. companies also draws on emotion response as emotion plays a significant part in the product we buy.
we chose to buy a product that; to solve a problem; stop something happening that we fear; plays upon guilt or compassion; seeks to help are social points.
solving a problem-adverts that show a product or a service solving everyday problems to make it relatable.
the solving the problem advert just like this tesco advert shows and takes advantage of the target audiences emotion of stress and worry and then it provides them with a solution to solve the problem there by taking advantage of the emotion and turning it in to happiness or calmness making it so the audience feels that way as well.
celebrity endorsement celebrity endorsements adverts are advert which features someone famous who is usually associated with the brand who then appeal to the brands target audience.
the advert made by BT shows the marketing team showing there super fast wifi with help from a celebrity which is in a series of adverts with different celebrities and shows a person who has been on the rise with amount of productions and films she has been in meaning she is easily recognised
repetition- repetition in adverts the is use in the form or a song, slogan or brand names as the audience remember each of those thing better through repetition.
The repetition of the song that the go compare man sings in the first go compare advert is an example of repetition used in adverts as there a limited lyrics to the song and it repeats the lyrics it does have over and over again. However this was a successful advert due to the repetition as go compare got global recognition for the song and the tune and has stuck with the audience for years.
shock tactic- charitable and campaigning organisations use shock tactics in there adverts in order to draw on fear and compassion to raise money for their cause.
the british red cross advert shocks the audience by showing them what is going on in other places in the world and using disturbing imagery that the audience cant relate to and this makes the audience worry and be scared for the people in the advert causing for a reaction or action from the audience to help out there organisation or charity.
sex- advertisers use the phrase "sex sells" as a way of advertising the produce as they recognise that human sexual attraction and impulse perhaps a stronger then any other emotion making the advert and product more memorable.
This fiat advert uses sexual refrences and caters to male and there sexual egos by saying if you buy and drive this car women will find you more sexually attractive and that using this product uses
direct address- a direct address advert is were the advertisers speak directly to the audience this get the audience involved and asking themselves questions which are relevant to the product.
intertextuality- Intertextuality in adverts is where an advert refers to another media outlet (for example tv, film and magazine) they may use the character, music or other elements from the text.
nike used doc from back to the future as it make senses as during the film they advertised a pair of nike shoes which are identical to the ones in the film as well as the setting in a american mall which has the same name as the
voiceover- voice over in an advert is were the audience is addressed directly and used to promote recognition and memorability. celebrities are often used.
theses are used to reinforce the memory of the advert with a voice that people can remember as the voice is easily recognisable than the face.
special language- is language that suits the product; a product advert would use positive language to promote a positive message/image about the product; charitable cause would use more emotive language to appeal to audience compassion
with direct address the advert makes you more invested into the product or in this case the charity and the words such as 'never' or phrases like 'this is happening more' makes the watcher wanting to do more to help the animals as there is a feeling of helplessness or hopelessness
stereotypes- stereotypes are used in adverts as an oversimplified depiction of a particular group as in adverts there not time to explain the characters so stereotypes give information at first glance
done for comedic effect and give people a look into other peoples lives without going to there country also this plays into many stereotypes that english think of americans and vice e versa.
music- some tv adverts will use music and artists to advertise there product as well as raising the artist profile
depending of the tone of the music that determines what we feel the musical add is to either give us something catchy to get stuck in our heads or have it be something that we can relate to that product or service ass with things such as go compare or we buy any car it is very catchy but this is very sad and the music fits it
Ryder- Pretty Little Gangster
genre and styles- Pop/ gritty pop with catchy lyrics and memorial beat gives it traits of a pop song and with lyrics such as 'shattered dreams will break your heart' make the song sad and gritty.
the length of the song is 3:55 with the pace of the song fluctuating in different parts with the song being slow but when the song hits the chorus the tempo picks up as well the beat of the song so overall it is a variable song but the lyrics and the speed they are said does dictate the songs pace.
the meaning of the video is do not give up on your dreams and work hard to get to the big time as it is a life of joy and excitement as well as wealth and glory for just being talented.
narrative of the video is to show the memories and experience and rarity of someone making it big in hollywood as this references the extravagant life styles with champagne and over luxuries but i think it also tells the down turn so a start falling from grace.
impressions of the song is how fake everything is in the TV/film industry and how violent something so innocent sound could be as the title of the song is a oxymoron of pretty little connoting something small and innocent while gangsters is a full 180 as stereotypically gangsters are seen as negative and dangerous and violent
the words used would make you think its going to show alot of wealth imagery such as champagne and chanderlers which are images of wealthy items.
the purpose of this video was to entertain people as well as to give insight into the sadder side of the celebrity lifestyle.
the conventions of the genre of pop/hip hop is with a repetitive beat while the lyrics change but the beat has a rhythm that the lyrics follow, also it usually has a common theme of looking at the sadder things in life as the subject matter and this song is no exceptions

LYRICS
Champagne in this fading light We are standing on the balcony and dancing in the pouring rain Please don't feed me black and white Sick and tired of the typical I wanna know your shade of grey Hollywood the land of stars Shattered dreams will break your heart Draped in jewels to look the part It's my anthem (x2) Crystal glasses Chandeliers Cameras flash at big premiers Welcome to the new frontier Can we get some (x2)
CHORUS: Maybe someday we'll both look back on this ride Top of the world we're finally living the life Takin' it in cuz lightning never strikes twice Pour me a drink looks like we finally arrived Spotlight coming down like a hammer Hot sweat getting high off the danger Can't quit cuz it's not in my nature Feet will never touch the ground Pretty little gangster now The good life will always remind me The real world can be so confining But power can also be blinding Feet will never touch the ground Pretty little gangster now
Silver tongue don't fail me now Used to look in open windows just to find a way to steal the crown Pretty gangsters climbing out Up the ladder pitter patter take a look at all the gold we found Hollywood the land of dreams Nothings ever what it seems Holy water make me clean Can we get some (x2) Crystal glasses Chandeliers Cameras flash at big premiers Welcome to the new frontier It's my anthem (x2)

IN CONCERT AND 'AS LIVE' FOOTAGE
where the event is live or uses footage from one of there concerts so it shows audiences live reactions this allows for the audience to see real emotion, i believe this was successful for the audience to see the emotion on the performers and audience face and with it being in a concert setting it means that any interactions between performer and audience become more interactive for the viewer. this video does it well with plenty of shots into the crowed to show its a live show and i personally enjoy the video.
ANIMATION
Animation is an art form that allows the watchers to see the person/focus in an out of body experience. it also can brings fantasy to normal situations it also allows for things to be exaggerated a lot such as in this video, the video shows people playing video games but it shows it as much more grander than it is. this is a good example of it as the tempo and visuals makes the audience feel hyped and energetic for this event. The fast pace and fast editing of the video gives the person energy and readiness to do mostly anything.
INTERPRETIVE
videos that are open to interpretation. and tell the audience to look deeper for the meaning behind the music video. depending on the intended audience this may be difficult then most other songs as if you give a deep powerful image to a kids song or a song where kids really enjoy it the message maybe lost or at least wasted on them. with handlebars it is all open to interpretation as this video could have multiple meanings and messages that it wants to convey and it is up to the viewer to decide what that message is.
NARRATIVE
narrative is another word for story. this means that the song is driven through a a story it is usually a song shown through how this story affected somebody's life if the song was depressing/sad while the ending of more happier story is a bit more exaggerated and shows how the character has developed over the song to where he or she is now but in the of this song it is depressing using subtle imagery such as stan watching over Eminem in the window at the end as well as it being through letters makes it depressing as well which works well in this song.
IMPRESSIONIST
its very similar to surrealist as it shows your images that you many not want to believe are real as they are often deformed or altered or just crazy, In this song it is just crazy and doesn't make me uneasy but does give me a weird feeling when watching it so i guess it is successful in its task as it gives distortions and altered forms of the same images and sounds but enough to break realism.
SURREALIST
they often show people on drug or a death experience which causes for a out of body/trip experience which shows people in the lead up or during the event. the lyrics at usually literal and slightly depressing but the images is often deluded/altered in some way which gives it a new look and slightly changes its meaning. this song does this very well with supernatural events or magic which alters everything so it does work with in the context of a surrealist song as its idea of greed can change someone who is down on his or hers luck if a powerful message but the alterations and delusions in the video give it an alternative perspective.
PASTICHE/HOMAGE
these are ways of tributing a song or music video to a creator, film or TV show. this is a beautiful homage to the late paul walker as i know many people who have cried to this song making it one of the greatest songs of all time and that is a sign of an amazing song.
PARODY
this is done for comedic value and is either about an artist and there song or about a problem that the artist or artist consider nothing much. the song is made to make people laugh but as well as this it is to still entertain and show a bands style of music. this shows all the song or at least most of the songs with the same 4 chords in most songs that became hits. this is very funny but also shows how accustomed we are to hearing the same things over and over without even realising it.
REFERENCING
this is referencing to movies and TV shows taking the clips of the movie or show and using that as the footage for the video this is not only to advertise the band but the movie as well. this is to give extra revenue both to the film and talent. this is mainly to advertise the movie which it has done fairly well as it does make people wonder where the song is from or how the artist is so it is a win win for both parties. i personally like the music and didn't realise this song was in the film until a second re-watch of the film so it has succeed to get people to watch the movie again.
Cutting to the beat
cutting to the beat involves music and a music video. when you watch a music video, you can notice the scene cuts to another scene on a certain lyric. when you watch the video, you can actually take the lyrics and breaks it in to pieces/scenes where the music cuts to another shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBjQ9tuuTJQ
Effects
Any sort of sound effect or special effects used in the music video with this it is all about how much or how many effects are in the video such as if it is to many then it looks tacky and fake as well as messy and lazy while with the right amount of effects they look good quality and shows effort.

Miming and lip syncing
Is a technical term fro matching lip movements with pre-recorded sung or spoken vocals that the listeners hear through speaks, either through PA system speakers in a 'live' performance or television or cinema speakers in the case of a lip synced TV show or film performance, mime is simply meaning the artist is using a special technique.

Playback and lip sync
a term that refers to when (during a performance) a musical group play a prerecorded track and lip syncs on the stage
the new rock group used playback instead of actually singing/performing the song on stage. as this gives more way of letting the group dance and sing while dancing and singing at the same time as he or she can just mouth the words also if this is done then any wind and any other sound effects uncontrollable of the artists hands can be removed if they are recored in a studio and they lip synch the words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc7-krRX8uA
as this is apparent in the song SING by Pentatonix as most if not all shots take place outside of a studio and there is no natural or environment sounds such as cars or wind
Multi-image
Multi-mage is a technique where multiple videos are on one screen. This generally shows more than one thing going on and the editing is critical with this technique.

Camera movements
Just like in any form of video media there will always be certain camera movements that are used for different reasons; an establishing show will generally set the scene at the beginning; a long show will normally set out the location of a closer scene, so the audience have a better understanding of the atmosphere;
Camera angles
Just like movements, camera angles makes a huge impact on the meaning and style of the music video, Wherever a camera is placed can show the bower of the artists/ characters. or sometimes it can show an exact location from where we should be seeing it. by choosing different angles the viewers have a different view of the action which makes it more interesting and everybody will have their own way of watching it. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AJmKkU5POA
Chroma key
Chroma key effects are when music videos are shot in front of a green screen. this means that a block colour behind the artists and is replaced by another picture / video. sometimes the quality doesn't always look as good if the background is of a specific location but they are sometimes used for upbeat dance. but in the case of eminems - like toy soldiers it is used for a different reason it is to set the stage for each part and gives a background for the song and visual https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lexLAjh8fPA
Lyric interpretation
how the lyrics are thought of or what people believe that each lyric means or what is ment by each lyric. In all songs the lyrics can be literal and they describe what you see or they can be thought provoking.
Extending or consolidating meaning
This is when you use symbolism and mise en scene to push the meaning or at least create more meaning or to bring the lyrics together into a visual explanation of what the song actually means
Focus on the performer
there is 3 types of performance dance, song and instrumental in this example this is an example of an instrumental piece
Lighting for mood
The lighting of the music video is just as important as in other media outlet such tv, radio, film magazines most media outlets require lighting for a different mood to one another
Pace and cuts of the music video
this is to suit the pace of the song as the faster the song cuts the faster the music usually which gives more immersion to the song for the audience as the song is dictating the pace of the visuals
Camera angles
the different camera angles will affect the story of the video as each camera angle gives a different view and it gives a different meaning for each
